Duck and Cover are Johanne Mortensen a fine singer with some Brenda Lee inflections in her voice but a little less convincing on straight rock'n'roll numbers like Lonesome Train, Peter Knudsen on electric and steel guitar, Paolo Molinari on double bass and Lars Ole Nielsen completes the rhythm section on rhythm guitar. They come from Denmark but this album has been recorded and mixed by Wally Hersom (who also plays bass on a couple of tracks) in Pasadena with extra help from Pappy Stuckey on drums on five tunes. The album features eleven self penned songs (mostly by Peter Knudsen but Paolo contributes two and Johanne co wrote one) that are very good and three classic covers (Hank Williams' Window Shopping, Wanda Jackson's Funnel Of Love and Johnny Burnette's Lonesome Train). Their set includes hillbilly boogie (Square Head Boogie), hilbilly swing, rockabilly, country ballad and a good dose of Hank Williams (in addition to their cover of Window Shopping their own One Tear Away is very similar to Cold Cold Heart and Fight or Flight has the same haunting feeling, especially on the steel guitar, you can find on Ramblin' Man).
A good debut that comes in a nice and well designed digipack which is always a plus.
Last minute : it seems that Johanne is no longer with the band and has been replaced by Krestine Havemann.
